Degree Requirements
Bachelor of Science Degree requirements for Botany are broken up into
two tracks
Basic Botany Track - B.S. Requirements
Foundation Courses
- BSC 2010 – Integrated Principles of Biology I (4 cr.) and BSC
2011—Integrated Principles of Biology II (4 cr.), with accompanying
labs
or
BOT 2010C— Introductory Botany (3 cr.), and one of the
following: ENY 3005C—Principles of Entomology (3 cr.) or
MCB 2000C—
Microbiology (4 cr.).
- General Chemistry and Qualitative analysis (CHM 2045, 2045L, 2046,
2046L) (8 cr.).
- CHM 2200,CHM 2200L-Organic chemistry (4 cr.).
- PHY 2004, 2004L-Applied Physics (4 cr.).
- MAC 1147-Precalculas: Algebra and Trigonometry (or equivalent; 4
cr.).
- AGR 3303 Genetics (3 cr.) or PCB 3063 Genetics (4 cr.).
Major Courses
- BOT 2011C-Plant Diversity (4 cr.).
- PCB 3034-Introduction to Ecology (4 cr.)
- BOT 3503 & 3503L Physiology and Molecular Biology of Plants (5
cr.).
- BOT 2710-Practical Plant Taxonomy (3 cr.) or BOT
5725C- Taxonomy of Vascular plants (4 cr.).
- BOT 5225C-Plant Anatomy (4 cr.).
- A minimum of 2 elective courses in botany-6-8 cr. (e.g.
BOT 2710, BOT 2800C, BOT 3151, BOT 4053, BOT 4905, BOT 4935. BOT 5115,
BOT 5225, BOT 5505C, BOT 5625, BOT 5655, BOT 5685, BOT 5695, BOT 5725,
PCB 5046C, PLP 5656 and courses listed above).
- A minimum of 2 elective science courses outside of botany 6-8 cr.
(e.g. AGR, CHM, EES, ENY, FNR, FOR, GEO, GLY, HIS, ORH, PCB, PLP, SOS,
STA, ZOO).
NOTE: A student must achieve a grade of “C” or better in
the foundation and major courses listed above.

Pre Professional Track - B.S. Requirements
Foundation Courses
- BSC 2010 and BSC 2010L-Integrated Principles of Biology I (4 cr.)
and
BSC 2011 and BSC 2011L-Integrated Principles of Biology II (4 cr.).
- General Chemistry and Qualitative analysis (CHM 2045, 2045L, 2046,
2046L) (8 cr.).
- CHM 2210, 2211, 2211L-Organic Chemistry (8cr.) or
CHM 3217, 3218, 2211L (7 cr.).
- One year of general physics (PHY 2053, 2053L, 2054, 205L, 10 cr, or
PHY 2048, 2048L, 2049, 2049L)
- MAC 2311-Analytic Geometry & Calculus 1 (4 cr.).
- PCB 3063-Genetics (4 cr.).
- STA 2023, Introduction to Statistics I (3 cr.) is strongly recommended
for students planning on graduate school
Major Courses
- BOT 2011 C-Plant Diversity (4 cr.).
- A student must select one course from four of the following five botanical
sub- disciplines:
- BOT 2710C-PracticalPlant Taxonomy (3 cr.) or
BOT 5725C-Taxonomy of Vascular Plants (4 cr.).
- PCB 3034- Introduction to Ecology (4cr.) or
PCB 3601-Plant Ecology (3 cr.).
- BOT 5225C-Plant Anatomy (4 cr.).
- BOT 3503C, 3503L-Physiology and Molecular Biology of Plants (5
cr.).
- CHM 3218 - Bioorganic Chemistry (4 cr.).
- A minimum of 1 elective course in botany 3-4 cr. (e.g. BOT 2710, BOT
2800, BOT 3151, BOT 4053, BOT 4905, BOT 4935, BOT 5115, BOT 5225, BOT
5505, BOT 5625, BOT 5655, BOT 5685, BOT 5695, PCB 5046, PLP 5656, and
courses listed above).
NOTE: A student must achieve a grade of “C” or better in
the foundation and major courses listed above.
