OverviewThe Department of Botany is a member of both the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at the University of Florida. The department enrolls approximately 30 undergraduate students in botany and over 100 in Integrative Biology. The department has around 45 graduate students as well as post doctoral associates and visiting scholars. We offer programs of study leading to Master of Science (MS), Master of Agriculture (MA), Master of Science in Teaching (MST) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees. Graduate studies in Botany center around three areas: ecology, molecular biology/genetics/biochemistry, and systematics. We have 15 faculty members, six professors emeritus, and ten affiliate faculty. The research interests of the faculty range from problems at the genomic level to analyses of ecosystems. Specific laboratories are equipped for ecological, molecular, physiological, biochemical, systematic and structural studies, including electron microscopy facilities. A herbarium and other collections are housed nearby in the Florida Museum of Natural History. The University maintains a sizable computing center which offers courses and assistance in programming.
