OverviewThe Department of Botany is recently merged with the Department of Zoology to create a new dynamic and integrated department, which continues to offer undergraduate and graduate degrees through College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at the University of Florida. The undergraduate degree program in Botany is Bachelor of Science (B.S.), with several track options. The graduate programs in Botany lead to Master of Science (MS) with thesis, Master of Science in Teaching (MST, non-thesis degree) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees. Botany degree programs typically fall into one of the three areas: ecology, molecular biology/genetics/biochemistry, and systematics. We emphasize both disciplinary rigors but also strongly encourage interdisciplinary approaches. A herbarium and other collections are housed nearby in the Florida Museum of Natural History.
